Puffco Peak - A First Timer Favorite

I’ve been a blunt smoker for close to 15 years. Rarely swaying from them, the alternatives are usually rolling papers, bongs, or pipes. Not for anything, but I have always enjoyed cannabis in its organic, flower state. There’s nothing like breaking apart sticky nugs and seeing the very real plant rolled into a tobacco leaf. It makes me feel closer to the process, a spiritual connection I have with the Earth. I know it sounds silly, but there is something very therapeutic about rolling some fresh weed. Still, I am not blind to all the fancy new gadgets that are in the market. One of the most notable gadgets I had my eye on is the Puffco Peak, and I’m happy to tell you guys all about my experience.

Dabs VS Blunts : Why the Switch?

When you always deal with flower,  the world of concentrates is confusing. Dabs, budder, shatter, sugar, shit it takes a good amount of research in order to figure it all out. Research that I admittedly didn’t do prior to receiving my Puffco. Still, I don’t blame myself completely as I received my Puffco as an anniversary gift from my supportive boss. But receiving it, and opening it, I was so excited. On the few occasions where I have tried dabs, they were enjoyable, mind blowing, and a nice little treat. Getting to learn about dabs on my own at home was exciting for me as a newbie. So I dived right in, reading just about every piece of publication I could about the difference in concentrates. Let me share with you what I’ve learned.

Concentrates for your Puffco Peak: Different Types

Now when it comes to what you’re going to smoke out of your Puffco, that’s where things can become confusing. Especially when shopping at a dispensary, where the options can sometimes be endless and the information is limited. In fact, the first time I tried purchasing something to smoke out of my Puffco, the budtender couldn’t even help me. I had to sit in the parking lot and Google some options because I didn’t want to leave empty handed. Through my research, I learned one important thing:

Shatter, Budder, Sugar: Same Concentrates, Different Consistency

There’s so many myths and old wives tales when it comes to dabbing, it seemed almost impossible to get a clear answer. My biggest takeaway? The biggest difference is how they are made. While shatter tends to be the most admired, it holds no higher THC than the budder or sugar. In fact, the consensus seems to lean towards butter, since it’s whipped - like consistency proves easier to handle.

Because of this reason I initially went with the Budder. I got a gram of some Lemon Haze (a limonene dominant strain ya already know). It was very smooth and in the heat of the day was a very gooey consistency. Once I brought it back home it did stiffen in the cool temperature. There was only one other concentrate that is not only very popular lately, but also very recommended:

Live Resin

I was recommended Live Resin but struggled to find it. Reading about it I learned two things. Live Resin does the best at maintaining the terpene profile of the flower. It is also a more effective smoke due to the controversial “entourage effect”. It’s also extracted in a different way and focuses more on keeping all of the cannabinoids, not just THC. I’m looking forward to giving Live Resin a chance, I still have not but as soon as I do I will tell you guys about it.

Preparing Myself to Use my Puffco Peak

Like I mentioned before, I already had a dab tool on hand. With my   Budder in tow, lots of water, and even some snacks, I prepared myself for my first time. I had never actually used one at all, so despite previously dabbing, this was a brand new experience for me. Everything came packaged beautifully with clear instructions. I did charge it up prior to using it, so I’m not sure if it was charged prior or not. I filled the water chamber and set up the atomizer. It does say to cold feed the concentrate prior to turning it on, so I scooped a sesame seed size amount on the tool and into the porcelain chamber. Everything was simple and neat, no real need for clean up or after care.

The First Toke

The first time was a little soft. I didn’t know how much or little I would have to inhale so I gave it a smaller puff. As I continued to use it, my puffs became a little longer and deeper to get nice size clouds. It was seamless and smooth and everything I wanted from a dab. I’ve also gone down a major rabbit hole of tips and tricks on Puffco so I might just do a whole thing on that because I have  enjoyed it very much.

Dabbing is always perceived as this strong smoke that will couch lock you immediately. Being able to choose the heat and the amount of dabs is great for new dabbers like myself. I never do more than a pea sized amount in concentrates, and that’s being very generous.

Regular Use

Now that I’ve had my Puffco for a few weeks I can say that it is still my most convenient smoke. I especially enjoy it before I head out for the day. I like to keep it in my vanity where I sit every day to get ready. Quick, pungent smokes that kick start my day. I have only smoked Budder, and it's easy to use. I also struggle with finding good options and would love to try some different Live Resins.

Puffco Peak Maintenance

Maintenance on the Puffco is pretty easy except for the ceramic heating chamber. The ceramic heating chamber burns black and it can be hard to clean. It’s almost more convenient to continue to buy new ones and swap them out. Overall you have to make sure to keep clean fresh water. I also use q-tips, pipe cleaners, and paper towels to clean the interior of the water beaker. Otherwise it’s very simple, it has a basic exterior that's easy to wipe clean.

The New Addition to my Cannabaddie Tools

I’m so happy and grateful to my man for gifting me the Puffco Peak. I have enjoyed it completely and see it as being a part of my regular smoking routine. It’s convenient and easy to take along with you as well if you’re spending the day outdoors or away from home. Make sure to charge it as it has a long battery life. Super excited to hear if you guys have used the Puffco Peak and what your experience was below in the comments.
